Alpha Church in Łódź was born out of circumstances no one would have chosen. In 2022, the war forced millions of refugees to leave their homes, loved ones, and familiar way of life and seek refuge in other countries. For many, Poland became a new place to call home, though one reached out of necessity, amid anxiety and uncertainty.
Among the believers who found themselves in Poland was Bohdan Bohun, a graduate of our Bible Preaching School. With the help of other brothers and Word of Grace Bible Church, the process of establishing a new church community began.
Over the past several years, the Lord has led the church through many different circumstances. Today, the church has 23 members, and an average of 45–50 people attend Sunday services. Bohdan Bohun was ordained to ministry and now serves as a missionary of Word of Grace Bible Church, which provides full financial support for his family and ministry.
The primary focus of Alpha Church is making disciples of Christ and spreading the Gospel through the preaching of God's Word, discipleship groups, evangelism training, and youth and women's ministries. Children's ministry holds a special place in the life of the church and has become a natural bridge for sharing the Gospel: through their children, many unbelieving parents are introduced to the church. This year, the church also held a youth camp.
Bohdan Bohun, pastor and our missionary:
"Our ministry is primarily focused on the Ukrainian- and Russian-speaking communities in Łódź. However, the church is praying for opportunities to expand its ministry among Polish people and establish a Polish-speaking home group.
We thank God that even amid the devastating consequences of war, He continues to build His Church, raise up disciples, and open new opportunities for the spread of the Gospel."
